The Marimba Sound and Where It Went: Zelipercussion Carries It Into Naja

The Marimba Sound and Where It Went: Zelipercussion Carries It Into Naja

The Same Channel That Hosts Bach on Marimba Now Carries a Seven-Minute Electronic Single

The lead line on Naja is a marimba, the wooden mallet instrument more often heard in a concert hall than on a club system. Zelipercussion puts the marimba at the front of Naja, a seven-minute electronic track released in July 2025. There, it carries the melody that a synth patch would usually take. By the artist’s own description, that marimba lead drives the whole piece.

Zelipercussion’s Naja sits in the synth playlist below, and the Zelipercussion artist profile keeps every article on the project in one place. Naja reached this desk through PopHits.Co Music Charts, which verifies independent artists and places their releases across its network of music news desks. Hit play on the marimba, then keep reading for how the track is built.

Zelipercussion Builds the Hook of Naja on a Marimba Lead Instead of a Synth

The Hook

The hook is the instrument itself. Zelipercussion describes Naja as an experimental track, driven by a marimba lead through Indian-inspired atmospheres. That choice changes the attack of every note. A synth can hold a tone for as long as the programmer wants. A struck wooden bar, by contrast, starts loud and decays fast, so the rhythm has to keep feeding it.

The project’s YouTube channel shows where that marimba comes from. Zelipercussion is the project of percussionist Riccardo Zelinotti, and the Instagram account carries both names. Years before Naja, the channel posted concert performances credited to Zelinotti. In 2019 came the Gavotte en Rondeau from J.S. Bach’s Partita No. 3 in E, arranged for marimba. That same day the channel also posted Vibra-Elufa, a vibraphone solo by Karlheinz Stockhausen, one of the pioneers of electronic music. Niflheim by Csaba Zoltan Marjan followed in 2021. In short, Naja takes that concert background and points it at a dance floor.

There is also a clear line to Steve Reich. Reich’s Music for 18 Musicians, premiered in New York in 1976, is scored for an ensemble that includes three marimbas, two xylophones and a vibraphone. Minimalism of that kind has long been a reference point for electronic producers who build with repeated patterns. Naja runs the idea the other way, bringing the mallets into an electronic track.

The Lyric

The words around Naja do the framing. The title is the scientific name for the cobra genus, and it comes from the Sanskrit nāga, meaning snake. That fits a track its maker places in Indian-inspired atmospheres. The description on YouTube also calls it an experience of rhythm and emotion, which points the listener at the pulse rather than at a storyline.

Similarly, Four Tet offers the closest reference for that kind of borrowing. On Morning Side, from the 2015 album Morning/Evening, Four Tet built a long piece around the voice of Lata Mangeshkar, sampled from a 1983 Hindi film song. Complex drum programming and arpeggiated synths surround that voice. Naja leads with a marimba rather than a voice. Even so, the instinct is similar: let one outside sound lead, then build the electronics around it.

Naja Runs Past Seven Minutes, Giving a DJ Room to Bring the Marimba In and Out

The Structure

The original mix runs just past seven minutes. That is a club length, with room for a DJ to bring the track in, let the marimba settle and mix out without rushing. The full video went up on YouTube on 31 July 2025, six days after the streaming release. A shorter 87-second version followed a day later, as a quick introduction to the hook.

Naja came out early in a steady run of singles. Blessing followed in November 2025, then Whispers, Whispers In The Dark and I Wanna Dance between January and May 2026. Apple Music files those releases under electronic and dance. Several of them run long as well, with Whispers and I Wanna Dance both reaching eight minutes. On Spotify, Whispers In The Dark currently leads the act’s most-played tracks with more than 19,000 plays, while Naja has just under 3,000.

Who Naja Is For

Naja suits listeners who come to avant-garde electronic music for texture and rhythm. It also suits DJs looking for a percussive track with an acoustic lead, something that stands apart in a set full of programmed synths. On Spotify, Zelipercussion has about 7,100 monthly listeners, a focused audience for an act this specific.

ElectroPop.News curator team: “The bright idea on Naja is refusing the obvious synth lead. A marimba decays fast, so the programming has to keep it moving. That tension between wood and machine is what makes the track worth seven minutes.”

Where to Hear Naja, the Zelipercussion Single Built on a Marimba Lead

Stream Naja on Spotify and Apple Music, and follow Zelipercussion on Spotify, Apple Music and Deezer.

Watch the marimba performances on the YouTube channel, and follow the project on Instagram.
