Why Rafael Montecruz Keeps Coming Back to Tell Me Why (Remix)

A Year After the Ballad, His First English Song Returns as Electro-Pop with Abraham Armell

Synth pads and a light programmed rhythm open Tell Me Why (Remix), and the heartbreak arrives after them. Rafael Montecruz released the remix on 5 December 2024, exactly a year after the original. On the way, he cut his first English-language song from 4:41 to 3:23. Abraham Armell carries the vocal, while the commercial pop, EDM and electronic pop production around it is new.

Rafael Montecruz’s Tell Me Why (Remix) sits in the playlist below with our electropop and dance-pop picks, and the full coverage history is collected on the Rafael Montecruz profile. Further down, the article traces the ballad it came from. Tell Me Why (Remix) reached this desk through PopHits.Co Music Charts, which verifies independent artists and places their releases across its network of music news titles. Play it loud first, then keep reading for how the ballad became a remix.

Synth Pads and an EDM Pulse Cut Rafael Montecruz’s Ballad by 78 Seconds in the Remix

The starting point was a ballad. Tell Me Why (Alternate Version), credited to Rafael Montecruz featuring Abraham Armell, came out on 5 December 2023 and ran 4:41. French outlet Iggy Magazine described it as a ballad that had already passed 125,000 plays on Spotify before the remix arrived.

The remix keeps the song and changes the machinery. Iggy Magazine hears an airy opening built on vibrant synth pads and a restrained rhythm. Meanwhile, Pop Passion Blog describes the same vocal performance set against a dynamic, EDM-style production with a glimmering electro-pop beat. Lost in the Manor also picks out the piano under the synths and the way the melody builds with the percussion.

Then there is the arithmetic. The remix runs 78 seconds shorter than the ballad, a large cut for a song built around a story. A frame of just over three minutes suits radio and dance playlists, and the electronic pop arrangement is built for that format.

The Lyric Keeps Asking What Happened to a Love That Ran Out of Time

Under the new production, the lyric is the same account of a love that slipped away. Rising Artists quotes the line “time passes and it won’t come back”, and reads the song as a relationship lost to bad timing and youth. Pop Passion Blog, in turn, highlights a more specific image: “together we would stroll on by through the neighborhood where I was raised, without a dollar to our names.”

That detail matters for a remix. The title is a question, and the song never fully answers it, so the faster tempo does not resolve anything. Instead, it puts the question on a dancefloor. Cheers to the Vikings heard exactly that balance, a wistful lyric held up by a beat that keeps moving. Analyze My Lyrics similarly reads it as a song about first love, regret and growing up.

Rafael Montecruz and Abraham Armell Built the Remix Into a Run of Reworked Singles

Rafael Montecruz writes, plays and produces, and his Facebook page lists Los Angeles as home. Pop Passion Blog describes a multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter-producer who started releasing music in 2017 with Pendiente, a four-track Latin pop EP. The partnership with Abraham Armell then began with the original Tell Me Why in December 2023, and it has shaped almost every release since.

The catalogue shows a habit of returning to finished songs. Day (Song For My Valentine) arrived in January 2024, and Day (Remix) followed in July. Similarly, Someday came out in September 2024, and Someday (Reimagined) in July 2025. Tell Me Why (Remix) sits between them, a year after its source. Along the way came I Saw Her, We’d Be, a Spanish-language Dime Qué Será De Ti (Alternate Mix) and a Portuguese version of Madrugada. In 2026, Shadow in April and Under the Cherry Tree in September continued the run with Armell.

For Listeners Who Like Their Heartbreak at Dancefloor Tempo

The closest reference points treat sadness as something to dance through. Robyn set a lonely lyric to a driving synth-pop pulse on Dancing On My Own in 2010, and Tell Me Why (Remix) runs on the same contrast. Kygo built his early profile by reworking ballads into electronic tracks, including a remix of Ed Sheeran’s I See Fire. That is the move Montecruz makes with his own song here. Finally, Avicii put an earnest vocal over an EDM build on Wake Me Up, and Armell’s performance sits inside this remix in a similar way.

This remix suits listeners who want commercial pop with a real lyric in it. It also suits electronic pop fans who like a song they can sing as well as move to. Above all, it works for anyone who knows the original, because the comparison is the point.

ElectroPop.News curator team: “Taking 78 seconds out of a ballad without losing its story is careful arrangement. Tell Me Why (Remix) hands the tempo to the synths and leaves the regret in the lyric, so it works on headphones and on a dancefloor.”
