A Montréal EP Built on Funk Grooves, LAIDOFF Features and a Three-Part Visualizer Story

BOO THANG!, the five-track EP from Montréal artist ALÖW, came out on 25 September 2026, and its title track runs on a funk groove built for movement. LAIDOFF appears on two of the five tracks and Kamino joins on the closer. A three-part visualizer series follows the record’s romance from The First Move to The Final Choice.

ALÖW and the BOO THANG! title track are in the playlist below, and the rest of the EP’s story unfolds on this page, with earlier coverage kept on the ALÖW artist profile. The release reached this desk through PopHits.Co Music Charts, which verifies independent artists and places their releases across its network of music news titles. Hit play, then read on.

The BOO THANG! Title Track by ALÖW Builds Its Hook on a Funk Groove Made to Move

First, the title track sits third of five, and it carries the EP’s clearest hook. Above all, the groove is the centre of the song: a funk rhythm with a feel-good bounce, set under a light, flirtatious topline. Also, at three minutes and sixteen seconds, it makes its point and does not outstay it.

ALÖW describes the project as a splash of funk, a dose of groove and feel-good rhythms made to move you. In other words, that is a production brief in one line. Rhythm comes first, then the hook rides on top, and everything else stays out of the way. As a result, it suits a self-released electronic record aimed at playlists and dancefloors rather than headphones alone.

Montréal, after all, has form here. Chromeo built a career from the city on talk-box hooks and 1980s funk drum programming, starting with She’s in Control in 2004. Kaytranada, raised in Montréal, similarly built 99.9% in 2016 and the Grammy-winning Bubba in 2019 on swung, bouncy grooves. Likewise, ALÖW works in the same city and in the same broad lane: groove first, then the hook.

So how do you hear the craft? Start with the BOO THANG! title track by ALÖW and listen to the rhythm before the words. Then watch the visualizers in order, beginning with The First Move below, and finally play the EP from the first track to the last. In this way, each step adds a layer to the same idea.

Catching Feelings, LAIDOFF and Kamino Features and a Five-Track Order Shape the BOO THANG! EP by ALÖW

Meanwhile, the lyric is about catching feelings. Specifically, the title track celebrates the rush of a new connection and keeps the mood light rather than heavy, which suits the bounce underneath it. Thomathy Entertainment indeed heard the same thing when the song arrived, calling out its romance, its groove and its refusal to take itself too seriously.

In addition, ALÖW tells the BOO THANG! story visually, in three chapters. After The First Move come Friendly Competition and The Final Choice, all released on YouTube under the BOO THANG! banner. Read in order, therefore, the titles sketch a romance from first approach, through rivalry, to a decision.

Similarly, the running order frames that story. To begin, DON’T GO BACK opens the EP at three minutes and nineteen seconds. CHERRY COLA RUSH follows with LAIDOFF, and then the title track takes the centre. Next, WAVES IN MOTION is the longest piece at four minutes and ten seconds. Finally, KEEP THE PACE closes with LAIDOFF and Kamino both on the credit. Altogether, the EP runs just over sixteen minutes.

Two Collaborators and a Short Running Time Make the EP Easy to Programme

Because LAIDOFF appears twice, LAIDOFF is the EP’s main collaborator. Kamino arrives only at the end, so the closer becomes the one moment where three names share a single track. Moreover, the EP is self-released and carries a 2026 HighVibrations copyright line.

For that reason, the shape makes BOO THANG! easy to programme. For example, a curator can lift the title track for a dance-pop playlist, use CHERRY COLA RUSH for something faster, or run all five in order for a short set with a beginning, a middle and an ending.

For listeners who like the funk of Chromeo or the bounce of Kaytranada, BOO THANG! by ALÖW is a short, friendly way into a new Montréal name. Start with the title track, watch the visualizers, then press play on the whole EP.

ElectroPop.News’s curator team:

“The smartest decision on BOO THANG! is the running time. Four of the five tracks stay under three and a half minutes, so the EP plays like a run of singles that still tells one story.”

Stream BOO THANG! on Apple Music or save it on your preferred platform. Follow ALÖW on Spotify, SoundCloud, Instagram, TikTok, X and Facebook.
