Why Chillwave Keeps Coming Back: Goodbye Gravity by Attaboy

Why Chillwave Keeps Coming Back: Goodbye Gravity by Attaboy

Ten Songs Under Thirty Minutes, Built on Pre-Chorus Lifts and Synth Haze From Fort Wayne

Goodbye Gravity plays ten songs in 29 minutes and 21 seconds, and not one of them reaches three and a half minutes. Attaboy, the indie-pop band from Fort Wayne, Indiana, released Goodbye Gravity on 14 September. It sets melodic synth lines and chillwave haze inside tight pop structures.

Attaboy’s title track, Goodbye Gravity, sits in the playlist below with our electropop picks. The full run of coverage on the band sits on the band’s artist profile. The album reached this desk through PopHits.Co Music Charts, which verifies independent artists and places their releases across its network of music news desks. Queue it up, then keep reading.

That economy is the first craft decision worth noticing. Chillwave, the hazy, synth-soaked indie pop of the late 2000s, often let its songs drift. Attaboy keeps the synth haze but holds each song to radio length. The title track is the shortest at 2:20, and the longest, It’s Not Me, It’s You, stops at 3:24.

The running order is built for momentum. Carefree in the Chaos opens and Can’t Stop Now follows. The title track then arrives fourth, early enough to frame everything after it. Lost in Time, Golden and Bright Eyes fill the second half before Makin’ Moves closes the record.

The blend is indie pop, synth pop and chillwave first, with alt-pop, pop rock and electropop in the mix. Meanwhile, atmospheric synth beds carry the record. Melodic synth lines take the lead where a guitar riff might sit on a rock record.

The band behind it is no newcomer. Attaboy has been together since 2004 and, by its own count, has played to more than two thousand audiences across North America and Europe. The release is handled directly too: on the band’s own website, Goodbye Gravity is a name-your-price download, and zero counts as a price.

Attaboy Writes Goodbye Gravity Around One Wish, to Slow the Clock Down and Hit Rewind

The two singles that arrived ahead of the album share a theme. Slow It Wayyy Down, released with a video in July 2025, looks back at childhood summers, when time moved slowly and the stereo played all day. Then it asks whether there is any way to rewind. In the verse, a pair of grass-stained jeans stands in for the childhood traded away for an adult life where the grass looks less green.

Carefree in the Chaos, which followed in April 2026, turns the same wish into a character study. Its narrator is worn down by stress, wishes he could stop and rewind, and starts to dream of better days. Even so, the lyric gives him a way through rather than a lecture.

Read side by side, the two songs explain the title. Goodbye Gravity sounds like that same wish compressed into two words: a release from the weight of the everyday. Chillwave was always good at that feeling, and Attaboy writes straight into it.

Pre-Chorus Lifts and a Down Chorus Give Goodbye Gravity by Attaboy Its Pop Shape

Both singles carry official videos on the AttaboyOnline YouTube channel, each with the full lyric sheet in its description, and those sheets show the scaffolding. Both run verse, pre-chorus and chorus twice, then a bridge. The pre-chorus is the lift, the short climb that makes the chorus land.

Carefree in the Chaos adds one more move. After the bridge it drops into a down chorus, a stripped-back pass at the hook, before the full chorus returns twice. It is a classic pop technique, because pulling the arrangement back for one pass makes the final choruses hit harder.

Listeners raised on Washed Out will recognise the palette. Ernest Greene’s 2009 single Feel It All Around helped define chillwave’s slow, sun-faded synth sound. Toro y Moi is the other touchstone, since Chaz Bear’s Causers of This in 2010 paired the same haze with sharper songwriting. Overall, Attaboy sits closer to the pop end of that line, with tighter songs and clear sections.

Goodbye Gravity suits synth-pop playlists, late drives and anyone who likes chillwave with proper choruses. Start with Carefree in the Chaos to hear the down chorus, then play the album from the top.

From the ElectroPop.News Curator Team: “The last three songs, from Golden to Makin’ Moves, all finish inside three minutes, so Goodbye Gravity ends at a sprint rather than a drift. That restraint, from an act built on synth atmosphere, is why it earned a slot in our rotation.”

Stream the album on Apple Music or download it from the band’s official website. The official videos live on their YouTube channel.

Follow Attaboy across platforms: Spotify, Apple Music, SoundCloud, Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook.
