Viridenis Ventus Opens Z8phyR's Octochromatic Project with Melodic Progressive House in Three Cuts
An Oklahoma Native Starts a Light-to-Colour Concept Series on His Own Cool Breeze Label
Viridenis Ventus comes as one composition in three cuts: a 6:14 original, a 4:52 radio edit and a 6:08 ambient mix. Z8phyR is the melodic progressive house alias of Oklahoma native Donovan Townes. He released all three through his own label, Cool Breeze, on 18 September 2026, and together they open Octochromatic, a concept project built around light turning into colour.
Z8phyR’s Viridenis Ventus is in the playlist below, so the Oklahoma producer’s melodic progressive house is one click away. The producer’s coverage so far is gathered on the Z8phyR artist profile. The single came to this desk through PopHits.Co Music Charts, which verifies independent artists and places their releases across its network of music news desks. Press play, then read on for where the sound comes from.

Viridenis Ventus Sits in the Melodic Progressive House Wave Z8phyR Has Worked In Since 2017
Melodic progressive house is the patient end of the dance floor. Tracks run for six or seven minutes, arpeggios carry the melody, and the chord progressions move slowly. That is the wave Viridenis Ventus belongs to. In fact, Proton Radio files the release under Progressive House, with Ambient and Experimental listed beside it.
Z8phyR has worked in that lane since 2017, when his first productions earned plays on Roger Shah’s Magic Island radio show and on Chicane’s Sun:Sets. A debut album, Breath of a New Dawn, followed in 2018. That same year he recorded with the Spanish guitarists JP Durand and Liza Carbe of the world-music band Incendio. Then, in 2019, he set up Cool Breeze, a label dedicated to melodic progressive house.
Since then the label has carried his own releases, including A Beautiful Sunrise, Clouds of Summer and Celestial Serenade. His catalogue also runs through other specialist labels such as Soluna Music and Synth Collective. As a result, Viridenis Ventus arrives from a producer with a long run in the genre, on a label he built for exactly this sound.

Three Cuts of One Composition
Each version does a different job. The original runs 6:14, long enough for the slow build the genre is known for. The radio edit trims it to 4:52, a length a radio show or a playlist can use without fading out early. The third cut is an ambient mix at 6:08. So the release ships a club version and an ambient version side by side, which fits the two genre tags Proton Radio gives it.
Townes wrote, produced, mixed and mastered the release himself, and he directed its visuals as well. Even the title is part of the design. Ventus is the Latin word for wind, viridis is the Latin for green, and the release note calls the piece the blooming presence. A wind theme also suits an artist whose alias spells out zephyr, the old word for a gentle west wind.
The concept reaches past the music. According to the release note, Viridenis Ventus is the first point of illumination in a wider story about light becoming colour. The single also centres on gradual transformation and the tension between darkness and emerging light. That gives listeners a clear frame for the slow, steady build of the original mix.

Fans of Chicane and Roger Shah Will Find the Same Gradual Build in Z8phyR’s Viridenis Ventus
The closest reference points are the two DJs whose shows first played Z8phyR. Chicane, the project of Nick Bracegirdle, became known in the 1990s for Offshore and Saltwater. Both are Balearic records that build slowly and leave plenty of space around the melody. Meanwhile, Roger Shah runs Magic Island, a radio show and compilation series billed as music for Balearic people. Each favours long, melodic builds over sudden drops, and Viridenis Ventus works the same way.
The company the single keeps on air points in the same direction. DJ JIM’s weekly show on FON MUSIC RADIO played Viridenis Ventus in its 401st episode. That tracklist also included Anjunabeats releases by Jaytech and Michael Cassette, alongside records from labels such as Synth Collective. In other words, the track is already reaching the kind of show where melodic progressive house DJs share new material.
Where Octochromatic Goes Next
Viridenis Ventus is only the opening chapter. Chromatic Prelude is the next release in the Octochromatic sequence, and the project will keep unfolding through further music and visual concepts. So this single sets the musical and visual language that the later chapters will build on.
ElectroPop.News’s curator team: “Viridenis Ventus ships the same composition three ways, and that is a producer’s choice worth noticing. The radio edit gets you to the melody fast, while the original gives the build the full six minutes it needs.”
Start with the radio edit for the melody, then play the original from the top to hear the full build. Finally, save the ambient mix for last, to hear the same theme in a different setting.
