A Found-Sound Clip, a Bouncing Bassline and a Hook Built on Innuendo From New York
BACKDOOR by ori.mp3 came out on 1 April 2022, a dance-pop single that runs to two minutes and 39 seconds. At its centre sits a found-sound clip of a waitress, dropped in over a bouncing bassline, and that clip is the first thing worth listening for.
ori.mp3’s BACKDOOR now sits in our Electropop, Electronic Pop, Dance Pop playlist below, and the wider coverage lives on ori.mp3’s artist profile. The single reached this desk through PopHits.Co Music Charts, which verifies independent artists and places their releases across its network of music news desks. Press play first, then read on for how the joke was built.

The New York artist, credited as ORI on the early releases, built a whole joke around one stranger’s voice.
The Waitress Recording That Became the ori.mp3 BACKDOOR Hook, Original Title and Running Joke
The clip came from a friend. In a quick-fire interview with Fame Magazine, ORI explained that the friend had recorded a waitress taking his order. Hearing the audio was enough to want it in the song. The phrase on that recording, Avocado Extravaganza, was the song’s working title before BACKDOOR replaced it as the easier name to say.
That swap tells you how the track is put together. The waitress line works as a punchline because the rest of the lyric is a run of innuendo, and the title keeps the innuendo in plain sight.

Pop Passion Blog caught the effect. Its reviewer admitted to repeating the chorus line about someone crawling through the backdoor, in a robotic voice, for a week and a half. The same review singled out the avocado line for keeping the song silly rather than seedy, which is exactly the balance the arrangement aims for.
The official upload says much the same in a single line. It calls BACKDOOR a cheeky pop earworm full of innuendo, and it warns that dancing is inevitable.
The joke is also a production decision. ORI lists artist and producer side by side on Instagram. In the Fame Magazine interview, ORI also put the quality of the release down to choosing quality over quantity. That shows in the single as much as the video: one idea, set up early and paid off without padding.

A Bouncing Bassline, Layered Breathy Vocals and Two Minutes 39 Seconds of Dance-Pop From New York
Underneath the jokes, the arrangement is lean. The Real Ding heard a bold, bouncing bassline and shimmering production, with ORI’s voice layered throughout. Fame Magazine described a string of innuendos purred over a big funky bassline and dancefloor-filling beats. Pop Passion Blog, meanwhile, credited the bassline with the rhythm and called the vocals breathy and bright.
So listen in layers. Start with the bass, which carries the groove. Then follow the stacked vocal, which keeps the delivery light. Finally, wait for the found sound, which turns the song into a joke the listener is in on.
Both The Real Ding and Fame Magazine reached for Dua Lipa and Doja Cat as reference points, and the comparison holds on specifics. Dua Lipa’s Future Nostalgia put disco bass at the front of pop radio. Doja Cat has made a habit of delivering innuendo with a straight face over funk-leaning grooves. BACKDOOR sits where those two habits meet, in commercial vocal dance and contemporary pop.
The video, uploaded on the same day as the single, leans into the gag. Pop Passion Blog noted gimp suits and Tech Deck fingerboards, and ORI told Fame Magazine that an oversized prosthetic breastplate was the favourite part of the shoot.
From Homeless Guy in 2021 to MOJO in 2026, the Singles Around BACKDOOR
BACKDOOR also marked a turn in the catalogue. ori.mp3 had been releasing singles since January 2021, starting with Homeless Guy and OmO. That first year moved quickly, from Come Ova and Trance to X-actly and critic, and The Real Ding greeted BACKDOOR as a return after a year of pop singles. Next came SLUMT on 25 May 2022, a track ORI described to Fame Magazine as a stylistic change, built on 808s, synths and trap hi-hats. The run then continued through Tension, P0rnoflip, girl dinner and HORSE STICK to MOJO in July 2026.
In May 2022 the single also reached the European Indie Music Network, which scheduled it for its Formula Indie programme on 11 May.
From the ElectroPop.News curator team: “BACKDOOR keeps the jokes in the lyric and the discipline in the arrangement: one bassline, one found sound and no wasted bars. That economy is why the innuendo lands as fun rather than filler, and why the hook still works four years on.”
