Vera Soledad y Sangre: Why Eighties Synthwave Keeps Coming Back to Montevideo

A Montevideo Producer Trained in Film Scoring Turns Eight Songs Into One Dark Arc

Eighties synthwave is the starting point: melodic synthesisers, strong beats and enveloping vocals. However, Vera, the electronic project of Montevideo producer Verónica Ramos, takes that sound somewhere colder on Soledad y Sangre. Released on 24 July 2026, her sixth album is an eight-track concept record. Over 34 minutes, it moves from melodic synthpop into post-punk and darkwave.

Vera’s music sits in the playlist below, between this desk’s synthpop and new romantic selections, and Vera’s artist profile collects the coverage to date. Soledad y Sangre reached ElectroPop.News through PopHits.Co Music Charts, which verifies independent artists and places their releases across its network of music news desks. Press play, then read on.

Melodic Synths, Strong Beats and the Spanish Lyrics Vera Wrote for Soledad y Sangre

The hook on a Vera record is rarely a single phrase. Instead, it is the combination: strong beats, melodic synthesisers and enveloping vocals. Above them, introspective lyrics pull against the dance energy underneath. That description comes from Cooltivarte Portal in Uruguay, which covered the album the week it arrived. It also matches the way Vera builds her music. The eighties synthwave palette is the base, and touches of indie dance and EBM sit on top.

The training explains a lot. First, Ramos started on classical piano. Then, after finishing her studies at eighteen, she joined bands on the local scene. In 2007 she moved to Buenos Aires to study film soundtrack composition at the ENERC film school, where she also began producing. As a result, she tends to think in scenes and sequences, and that habit runs straight through this album.

Eight Spanish Titles From Fría to Velo and the Themes of Isolation, Identity and Perception

The lyrics are in Spanish, and the titles read like a map of the record’s concerns. After the opening title track come Fría, Estrella, Espiral, Umbral, Madre de los anhelos, Víctimas and Velo. Together, they deal with isolation, identity and transformation. They also explore how perception shapes the way a person lives in the world.

The words alone suggest the direction. Cold, star, spiral, threshold, veil: read in order, they sketch a slow descent into something darker. Meanwhile, the music follows that path. In other words, the track list works as a storyboard as well as a running order.

Eight Stages in 34 Minutes, and How the Album Slides From Synthpop Into Darkwave

Structure is where Soledad y Sangre earns its concept tag. Each of the eight songs is built as one stage of an emotional arc, and the sound changes with it. At first, the tracks keep the melodic synthpop to the front. Later, as the sequence moves on, the record leans harder into post-punk and darkwave. Most of the songs run between four and five minutes, so each stage has room to settle.

The album also arrived with a visual piece. For example, a music video for Espiral was released alongside it. In addition, the live premiere was set for 19 September 2026 at Tazú Bar Cultural, as part of the It’s a Synth night. Alicia en el Barro and the Argentine band Las Eras were also on that bill. On stage, Vera works with Hugo Angelelli on electronic percussion and Maneco Urquhart on guitar and synthesisers.

The catalogue behind it is deep. Her debut, A Void Filled with Sounds, came out in 2014. Since then, Vera has released The Awakening (2020) and El Silencio es Música (2022), which was nominated for Best Electronic Music Album at the Premios Graffiti. The EPs The Fall, Crisálida and Madrugada followed. Finally, I Am What I Am (2025) came out on the Italian label REM Records.

For listeners, the reference points are clear. Fans of Depeche Mode will recognise the move from bright synthpop toward something heavier. That band took the same path between Just Can’t Get Enough and Black Celebration. Similarly, fans of Boy Harsher will hear a link between pulse and picture. Their 2022 short film The Runner paired darkwave and EBM with a story told on screen, which suits a producer trained in soundtrack composition.

ElectroPop.News curator team: “The shortest song here, Víctimas, runs under three minutes in a set of four and five minute pieces. It sits as a short, sharp turn before Velo closes the record. That is a producer’s sequencing decision, and it is why the album plays as one piece.”

Where to Hear Vera Soledad y Sangre and Follow the Montevideo Producer

It is a record for darkwave and post-punk listeners who still want a melody to hold onto. It also suits synthpop fans curious about where the genre goes when the lights dim. Play the album in the player at the top of this page, or stream it on Apple Music and Bandcamp.

To follow Vera between releases, find her on Spotify, Instagram and Facebook. Her Apple Music artist page carries the album as well.
